On October 23, 2006, the Lord called Pastor Scott to plant a church in the greater Phoenix area. His call was brief and to the point. He said, “I want you to plant a church; I’ll provide you with a team; in the meantime, focus on my character.” During the next eight months, a launching team began to slowly emerge. Eleven adults began meeting in the home of Scott and Christy to commit to this work.
On September 9th, 2007, The Way Fellowship Church had its first public worship service in a small improv theater in downtown Peoria. Many of our cultural values were established in these early years, probably the most important being our focus on relational evangelism.
In November of 2010, the church moved to Bellair Elementary School and enjoyed a two and a half year ministry there. This was a great season for us, as we learned the importance of not only relational evangelism but the need to engage our surrounding community as well.
It was not until May 2013 that we moved to our present location in north Peoria. Our sponsoring church, Sunrise Mountain Baptist Church, had been struggling to keep their doors open. Its remaining members gave us their property and buildings and then became members of our fellowship.
The past four years have been a tremendous time of transformation for our church. We are currently in an exciting season of spiritual growth. The Lord has been good to us, as we continue to seek His favor in His mission to love, follow, and share Jesus so that others might come to love, follow, and share Jesus.
